4 Ways To Update Your Wardrobe Without Spending Money

How many times have you opened the door to a closet full of perfectly good clothes, and contested, "I have nothing to wear."? We have all been there a time or two. Yet while we are saying we do not have anything to wear, what we really mean is: we feel we have run out of ways to wear what we already own. And while our natural inclination may be to run to the nearest mall and pick up a few new pieces to "spice" up our wardrobes, we already have everything we need to do just that. So, I have put together a list of four things you can do to get re-inspired by your closet.

1. Change one thing about your outfit after you put it on. So you are on the way out the door to hang with the girls, and you are looking in the mirror. You look fine, but you don't look fineeee, but you only have a few minutes before you are on CP time. Yet, you race out the door anyway. NO. Small changes that make a large impact can come from anywhere i.e. blouse, pant, eyewear, etc. If you are looking in the mirror dissatisfied about event he smallest thing, change it! It's that simple, something as small as throwing on another shirt, or putting your hair up, opposed to down can make an outfit more interesting and satisfying to the eye.

2. Pull out accessories you don't usually wear. Do you remember that scarf you bought two years ago that you haven't worn since, or the purse you bought for a steal at Marshall"s? Bring them out again! Oftentimes, we forget that an outfit is so much more than the base; top, bottom, shoes. It's hair, makeup, and accessories.

Accessories can be the most fun or frustrating part of an outfit. They're the subtle touch that can take an outfit from entry level to next level. Whether it is a hair clip, handbag, or handmade necklace, there is something in your closet that you can pull out again. And when you do, be sure to use in a new, fresh way.

3. Up Cycle a few things. That one XL t-shirt you have been meaning to crop for some time...grab the scissors sis. It's okay to add a little flare or re purpose something you already own. It's literally new clothing without the price tag.

Do not be afraid to alter something in your closet, especially if it is a piece that you do not wear as often to begin with. Cutting, sewing, cropping, or reworking clothing in your closet not only gives it a fresh update, but instantly becomes a custom piece that no one will have but you.

4. Try Monochromatic Looks. You know those black shoes, black jeans, black t shirt, and black puffer coat? Yes, put those together ASAP. Wearing a singularly toned outfit is one of the most effortless ways to look put together and stylish.

The only thing you have to do is match colors, and they don't even need to be the shade or an exact color match. That is one of the best things about it. And people assume that monochromatic can only be the one chosen color, but feel free to break it up a little with your shoe or a few accessories.

And those are four tips to help you get inspired again by your wardrobe, happy closet shopping!
