5 Ways To Create A Stunning Instagram Feed | Lifestyle Tips For Black Women

It’s no secret that black women are underrepresented and undervalued in mainstream media. However, thanks to Instagram and other social media outlets, we’re able to control our representation and promote ourselves in our best light. Instagram is a place where black women can finally put our best foot forward and it’s important for us to take advantage of this fact These days, Instagram can help boost your career, expand your professional network and create new opportunities for you. Particularly, if you own a business or are involved in any creative or artistic projects, it needs to be active on Instagram, here’s why. ! Even if you’re not a Instagram guru, you can still follow these tips to make your Instagram more appealing.

1. Style Your Instagram Around A Theme

Have a passion for knitting, art journaling or nature photography? There’s room for everyone on Instagram. Interested in natural hair care or trying out beauty products that look good on dark skin? Start an Instagram account dedicated to that! Even if you don’t want to have an Instagram dedicated to a specific passion, you can still find inspiration from mainstream themes like boho, tropical, minimalism and organize your pictures according to those designs.

2. Post Consistently (At Least Once Every Few Days)

While some people use Instagram casually (which is totally okay), it’s important to know the benefits of having an Instagram feed with high quality pictures that show up regularly on your follower’s timelines. Instagram can open many doors and create dozens of opportunities, including finding work and expanding your professional network, finding a significant other, making friends, or simply building your brand. If you want to enjoy the benefits of a well-maintained Instagram feed, posting once a month is not going to cut it.

3. Have Fun!

There’s no need to stress over how many followers you have. You can tell when someone genuinely has fun with their Instagram, because their posts will be more authentic and engaging. Don’t turn Instagram into another competitive chore or task to check off the list! Remember that your Instagram feed is about cultivating a place that describes and fits your personal brand, whether you’re artsy, analytical, creative, driven or laid back.

4. Accentuate Your Unique Features

Instagram isn’t just for gorgeous models—it’s for everyday people like you and me. You may not look like Naomi Campbell or Duckie Thot, but you still have unique things about both your physical features and your personality that make you you. Collectively, black women have a wide range of facial features and hair types, many of which are exclusive to us. Black women, let’s not let social media be another place where we struggle and fight to conform to European standards. As difficult as it may be, it is possible for us to cultivate a space where we thrive and take pride in our Afro-centric features, wide noses, thick lips and bodacious bodies.

5. Take High-Quality Pictures

If you use Instagram filters, make sure to keep them consistent. Shoot pictures in bright spaces and nice backdrops with wood and stone. Natural light helps best, but if not, use fake lighting. If your phone camera isn’t working for you, invest in a high-quality camera that will help capture your best moments and accentuate your best features.
