Improving Your Eating Habits

Bad eating habits will tell on you. It shows through your weight, your skin, and when you get sick. If you are struggling with getting into the groove of eating healthier, this article can help guide you while working in better eating habits. If you want to start a healthy weekly meal plan, keep reading for tips on healthy habits.

1. Bad Cravings

Cravings can be hard to avoid because there is a little voice in the back of your head convincing you to buy those potato chips. It is making you believe that, because you have a taste for that donut, you have to have it. Avoiding cravings use to be impossible for me until I started doing a little trick. Anytime I was around food that was unhealthy or had a sudden craving, I stuck a mint in my mouth. Sometimes I stuck a listerine strip in my mouth or a piece of gum. The reason being, is because mint is strong and it makes everything else taste bad. Think about it, after you brush your teeth and run to the fridge to drink your morning juice, it just kills the flavor. And that same concept can be used when you have a craving. When you crave something, you crave the taste. You don't crave it for health benefits. Try this if it is hard to control yourself around unhealthy foods to avoid.

2. Find the Healthier Version

To all the fried, greasy, fatty foods we love and enjoy, there is always a healthy alternative. Grilled chicken as oppose to fried chicken. Baked chips as opposed to the originals. Natural sugars as opposed to added sugars, and so on. Eating vegetables and grains does not have to be equated with hunger. Many people eat pasta, and starch because they want the feeling of fullness. Well, there are other foods that taste just as good and are just as filling, that are a healthy alternative. One food I fell in love with were beans. Pinto beans and black beans. Beans are a great source of protein and it fills you up just as that a burger and fries would. Try making a vegetable soup, pea soup, chicken soup, and mushroom soup to get full. Soups are packed with many nutrients and is great for weight loss.

3. Dressing Up your Salads

When i started getting into making salads, I noticed all the interesting blends that made them tasty. Working in the food handling business and serving people, I noticed people frowned at the sight of salad. However, with some heavy convincing that they would like it combined with nuts, fruit, and a tasty healthy dressing, they actually found the salad to be good. They even considered making the recipe on their own. Combine berries on top of spinach leaves and a pop seed dressing. You will be so glad you tried the combination.

4. Positive Rewards

If you must have some kind of sweet treat, give yourself a cheat day. However, use this cheat day as your reward for how you are doing throughout the week. Potato chips is my weakness. When I began eating healthy, I'd allow myself one cheat day after eating healthy six days out of the week. Because I knew on that seventh day I would reward myself with those potato chips , It made me stick to my healthy diet longer and I didn't give in sooner than I intended.

5. Water and Sugar Balance

If you have a bottle of a sweet drink with artificial sweeteners and sugars, make sure you equal it out with a bottle of water. This goes for soda, energy drinks, punches, and any other sweet drink.

That's it for healthy tips. I hope for this just starting out, this article will help those who want better eating habits.
